Jade Cerisa Lorraine Goody was a British television personality, born on June 5, 1981, in the Bermondsey district of London. Goody's early life was marked by adversity; her father, who was of Jamaican descent, suffered from substance dependence and had a criminal record, and was often subjected to abuse from far-right National Front supporters. Her mother was a drug addict, and Goody herself made an uncredited appearance in the television film London's Burning at the age of five.

Goody first came to national attention when she appeared on the third series of Big Brother in 2002. She was criticized by the British tabloid press for her perceived lack of decorum and intelligence, with Goody herself admitting to backstabbing and cavorting drunk and naked during her time in the house. However, despite these criticisms, Goody went on to find fame and fortune, appearing in her own reality TV shows and regularly featuring in celebrity, trivia, and gossip-oriented women's magazines such as Heat and OK!

One of Goody's most notable appearances outside of Big Brother was her participation in the 2006 London Marathon. Despite not finishing the race due to collapsing after 34 km (21 mi) of the 42.195-kilometer (26.219 mi) course, Goody raised £565.20 for her chosen charity, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Goody's career was not without controversy, most notably in January 2007 when she was involved in a racism controversy while appearing as a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother 5. Following her eviction, Goody made numerous apologies but continued to garner negative public reactions. In August 2008, Goody participated in Bigg Boss, the Indian version of Big Brother, but left early after discovering she had cervical cancer. By February 2009, the cancer had metastasized and she was terminally ill. Goody died from cervical cancer in the early hours of March 22, 2009, at the age of 27.

Despite her controversial past and negative public opinion during her lifetime, Goody's legacy has been softened by time. Sky Living broadcast five tribute shows documenting her life after her death, and she continues to be remembered for her tenacity and resilience in the face of adversity. Her story serves as a reminder that even those who have faced significant challenges and criticism can leave a positive impact on the world.
